Looking at the long history of encryption-related issue tickets and forum threads, the client-side encryption and the server-side encryption are prone to produce data loss. That's where the Encryption Recovery Tools come into play which try to rescue encrypted files that Nextcloud is unable to read.
This workshop will go into detail about the history and current state of the Encryption Recovery Tools. While looking at the current state, the inner workings of the recovery scripts will be discussed with the intention to spread the knowledge about how the encryption modes work. Maybe there will be a couple of people who will feel empowered to look at the encryption code as well.
Due to the complexity and multiple layers of the encryption, an hour is necessary for this talk, but it will be worthwhile to have an in-depth look at a real-world cryptographic implementation.
